Rubina Francis won bronze, India’s fifth medal at the Paris Paralympics

Indian athletes compete on the third day of the Paris Paralympics 2024, which is Saturday, August 31. Rubina Francis won the bronze medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol (SH1). Rubina Francis scored 211.1 points in the final game. India’s medal total at the Paris Paralympics 2024 has now risen to five. India has won one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals.

Iranian Javanmardi Sareh won the gold medal

In this event, Turkey’s Aysel Özgan took home the silver medal and Iran’s Javanmardi Sareh took home the gold. Javanmardi Sareh obtained a score of 236.8. Ozgan Aysel received a score of 231.1. Rubina briefly held the second spot, but she eventually dropped out. Shooters who have disorders in their hands or feet or whose arms, lower torso, or leg movement is compromised fall into the SH1 category.

25 years old Rubina is 40% crippled in her legs and suffers from rickets. Children with rickets experience problems with their developing bones. This illness results in bone pain and weakness. It may result in bone deformities. At the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy, Rubina receives pistol shooting instruction. Rubina won the silver medal in the 10m air pistol event at the World Shooting Para Sports World Cup- 2023. Rubina set a junior world record by winning the gold medal in the 10m air pistol women’s team event at the World Shooting Para Sports Championship in Bangkok in 2017. She also won a bronze medal at the 2019 World Para Championship in Croatia.

On August 30, 2024, Avani Lekhara wins gold in the 10m air rifle competition at the Paralympics.

The second day of the Paralympics saw four medals won by India. In the Men’s 10m Air Pistol (SH1), Manish Narwal took home the silver medal. The women’s 100-meter race (T35) saw Preeti Pal take home the bronze medal. Avni Lekhara took home the gold and Mona Agarwal the bronze in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle (SH1) shooting competition.
